A tribute to my second oldest son and third oldest child who turns 14 on February 5th. The In A Word is just one of over 300 letters written between 2004 and 2007 - and more may come some day... |
| Ben_Letter_10-10-05.pdf; | In a period of a few weeks - even a few months in 2005/06; I pressed-off some letters to each of my children. Basically, these letters were intended to convey my love and encouragement to them - in spite of the legal consequences that have driven us apart as a family. As I make these last possible entries to honor my son's |
| Ben_Letter_12-06-05.pdf | Yep; its about the "Soldier Boy" |
| Ben_Letter_12-14-05.pdf | Metamorphosis is about radical change; it is about the butterfly that exits the cocoon - having previously been a caterpillar... |
| Ben_Letter_12-28-05.pdf | Merry Christmas 2005; praise God that he came to set the captive free and to offer his son a sacrifice for our sins... |
| Ben_Letter_01-10-06.pdf | I gave a color for each of my children; and obviously, chose green for Ben. Why, you might ask?" Because green is healthy and alive - it is about life... |
| Ages14_hkirkrainer.pdf; | At age 14, I was not what you might consider a cool dude; nope, I was a bit of a geek...or something of that sort. Why, I may have been a great geek...but at least good |

During the years that I was privileged to be a part of my children's lives, playgrounds were front-in-center part of our experience; and one day, I decided to write a letter about many (not all) of the playgrounds we visited or frequented. A 14 year old has lost the zeal for the playground - but he once thoroughly enjoyed them; and this letter is for the once-boy that did! |

This letter may require some explanation: A simple exercise of association is aimed at drawing attention to the fact that I am my children's father. When this fact is seriously considered, the idea that someone can attempt to nullify it is ludicrous - and above all - is harmful to the children |
"AGE
TO AGE" is a tribute to each posted age; and for this time, that
age is 14. Each month or so, the age will be changed and, in turn,
will be updated either from previous writings, such as In A Word, or
will be developed from scratch. How we examine and reflect on our
past is sometimes helpful in und
erstanding the age in general and those who are
themselves passing through in person.
Being a teenager has its ups and downs; sometimes, "your world" can extend to more than than your family, a few friends, or the school zone limits. It may seem very large and complex, but as you mature, it begins to come into focus as a collection of teens - all of which are trying to discover who they are and what they are going to be. Insecurity and uncertainty are just a part of this season of life; therefore, you should not get too concerned if you're not who you think you should be - or who you want to be.
If I knew then what I know now, I would not have been so uptight and self-conscience; but I would have tried to have more fun and enjoy the energy and excitement that comes with this age - the transition from being a child to being an adult. Disappointment and hurt are part of this experience or age; but sometimes can offer great opportunity to learn, grow and mature. Also important is who we hang with; as the wrong dudes can be bad news...
