Taken Into Custody (The War against the Family)

TAKEN INTO CUSTODY  The War against the Family
This book is said to be the most comprehensive expose on the depredations (attack) of the divorce industry:  the truth about the destruction of families, violations of the Constitution, disregard for due process and its voracious appetite for children, parents and families.   In exposing the civil rights abuse, Baskerville describes this industry as "the most repressive government machine    TakenIntoCustody_Baskerville_2007.pdf

There should be several authors mentioned on this page:  of these, I begin with a quote from David Blankenhorn, author of Fatherless America, who describes this (divorce and its consequences...) as the most urgent social problem.  He writes:   "For most divorcing couples, the marriage ends in bitterness, guilt, and pain. A small civilization has died. The children stay with the mother. The man moves out and tries to move on. When he does so, he may suffer enormously."  So too, the children suffer...

Life Without Father by David Popenoe
Before turning to the featured text, I would like to introduce some other key sources for this subject; the first, is David Popenoe and his book Life without Father (1996).   More to follow on the background and credentials of the author as one of several contributors to my work, A Once and Always Father.

Custody_Popenoe_03-31-09.pdf - With a concentration on part one of the text, I present some of David's findings pertaining the decline (and even demise) of fatherhood in America.   According to David, the "system" now in place could not be more conducive (or anti-father) if it were purposely designed.   The message is simple, fathers are an endangered species...and their children suffer all the more.
  Fatherless America by David Blankenhorn
Another features writer and research, David Blankenhorn offers a historical perspective on the role of fathers in light of the threats now posed through divorce and its consequences - among other causes for the dismantling of the family.

Custody_Blankenhorn_04-03-09.pdf - The greatest threat to America is not terrorism; but is the demise of conventional family or, more specifically, marriage;  at the root of this crisis is the what David call's the "diminishing" father of our land.   Somewhat like the American Indian, this role of men is being driven into distinction.
Father and Child Reunion by Warren Farrell
....and after that, Warren Farrell, Father and Child ReunionWarren Farrell has produced a book that, though not necessarily is popular, is realistic in portraying the bias and maltreatment of men in the matters of divorce and parental rights.    What's most troubling in this book is the grim realty that, when the scales of justice are so imbalanced, the children (and innocent) generally pay the prices.    Custody_Farrell_04-11-09.pdf - Farrell begins on the basic need of parents to act responsibly; at stake is the children - who suffer from divorce and the aftermath of unnecessary and unwarranted conflict and contention.   Worst case is children caught in the criticism that invariably hurts them - though intended for their father.   When children are used like puppets to propel their parent's invective, love is not involved - but on the leverage of the innocent in the guile of the one... (To be continued...)
  Letters to the Birmingham News
A recent article in The Birmingham News decried a mother's violation of her Constitutional rights - being arrested for unpaid fees...Debtor's prison.

"Where have all the fathers gone..." could be an add-on to the famous 1960's folksong by  Pete Seegar.    Some fathers have been falsely accused and driven from the homes by divorce and discrimination...

What is deemed as the "greatest social crisis of our generation" is the growing single-parent homes and missing fathers.  The effects go much deeper than the children but, in their development, is a host of added risks to them and to theirs...

Marriage has long been under assault in our culture; No-fault is responsible for the astronomical rise in divorce over several decades -- which has coincided with the devaluing of this once religious sacrament.   Civil institutions do not care about marriage, families or religious sacraments however -- but only about another tax source...

When parents are disparaged from their children, then levied or imputed with child support, they realize taxation without representation.   Meanwhile, the tax-drive children support system is relentless in driving the non-custodial who has been driven from his family.   A Catch-22 ensues and the solution becomes non-existent.

Birmingham_DebtorsPrison_04-03-09.pdf

Violation of Constitutional rights and Debtor's prison is part & parcel the life of the father who is not a "Dead-beat dad" - but has been beaten-up by a system that has spurred divorce and fatherless children.   No-fault Divorce and Child Enforcement are two systems of our government that have undermined the family by dismembering the dads...

Birmingham_FatherlessBoys_04-26-09.pdf

Yes, children suffer in the absence of their fathers and male role models; yet, our society and culture is denigrating dads and fostering the ill-conceived condemnation of the conventional role of fathers.   Where the fathers go, so too does the family...

Birmingham_FathersRole_07-07-09.pdf

An active father may experience double-standards, but our families have far more serious problems with missing fathers whatever the reasons for their absence or inactivity.   Children need parents, free societies need a strong family base that includes a father...

Birmingham_MarriageRights_08-26-09.pdf

What are the threats or faults in marriage rights; Since the 1970's and the introduction of No-fault divorce, marriage has been devalued - changed from a contract to a relationship of convenience...

Birmingham_MenProgram_11-24-09.pdf

A program that aims to treat men like parents -- rather than merely debtors -- offers some hope to an otherwise hopeless situation.

"The greatest threat in America today is from within - it is the destruction of our families through divorce..."; it the governments machine to destroy the family...    - paraphrased from Stephen Baskerville, author of TAKEN IN CUSTODY

TAKEN IN CUSTODY is inspired by the book of same name.  Today's is my oldest son's birthday; he is 19 and we have not seen each other in eight years; yes, eight years...for he and his siblings.

Eight years ago, the courts took my children from me because my wife wanted a divorce...and because I am a man.    Without using this introduction for a detailed explanation, the basic understanding is that the plaintiff can make any allegations that they choose with impunity.    This understood, though unreasonable, court circumstance enables anyone without a conscience to make any allegation, though unsubstantiated or unverified.  Moreover, the enforcement of child support in conjunction with the regulation of visitation (if even that!) is an incentive for the welfare state and the demise of parental rights among other underpinnings of the family.

According to Baskerville, this attack or war on fatherhood is entirely government orchestrated and, at its roots, is designed to destroy the family by removing and repressing the key figure, the father.    Using a idiom of invective language, such as "dead-beat dad"- in a backdrop of denigrating dads through the media - the government has (and continues) to violate the rights and privileges of parents by separation of children and imposition of child support among other stipulations - the outcome of which has fostered debtors' prison, the welfare state, and countless fatherless left in the wake...

Recently, I came across the "Old Law" in the book of Deuteronomy; chapter 19 describes the consequence of giving false testimony in court:  if the witness turns out to be a false witness and has lied against his fellow Israelite, give him the same medicine he intended for the other party.  Under this law, my spouse would have been removed from the home presumably (to seek the happiness that she expressed I could not give her...); the children and I would have remained to carry on some vestige of the family (in our home); her visitation, income, and other details would have been regulated (and enforced) by the courts; and her thousands of unaccounted debt would have been hers to bear (alone) -- but that would have been justice...
