"A Log about Lincoln" is a another page with the backdrop of the 1,800's - but this being much about the man and very familiar character, Abraham Lincoln.   It is no coincidence that as I prepare this page that this month is 200 years since his birth and, as well, a PBS program is underway.

Lincoln is the most studied president of the time - as the Civil War is the most studied time of our history.  Imagine our country torn by ideologies and the inevitable war that would decide the direction and, for the matter, the sovereignty of our country.    It was a time period like no other in our history and, for our sake, should not be repeated or surpassed...

From his very poor childhood in Kentucky, Lincoln evidently knew the life of struggle - indicative of the rugged frontier.   Through his losses and victories of his early personal life, he maintained some obvious motivation to extend his nomination for the presidency.   During his lifetime of one marriage, he had four sons - although only one lived to maturity.

On the crucial victory of Gettysburg, he gave the address to include the emancipation of slavery as one critical issue of the nation...though a broken one.    At the close of the war, or the beginning of his second term, Lincoln was fair and equitable in the reconstructive plan for the country.   At the inauguration of his second term, the words or quote at the top of page rang true of his personal sentiment and beliefs.

Without the capability to accurately comment on his professional life, and with little information on his personal one, I will try to learn more of this man and his role within his family.  Yes, he was a great president during a unprecedented time of our history; but what of his role as a man, a father, a husband.
