"Do not let your deeds belie your words, lest when you speak in church someone may say to himself, 'Why do you not practice what you preach?'"

- Saint Jerome, Letter church father & saint (374 AD - 419 AD)

"A Church on every Corner" is another in the family of Stories of my Soul; and uses the well-known adage pertaining to most towns in my locality.

As with the tendency to assess people by appearance (before other things), so too is the tendency to assess (or associate) the church by the building or property.    If the building (or property) is relatively appealing, the tendency might be a "drive-by" appraisal - not of the property - but of the "church".   Though the head of the church (or  body of Christ) looked to the heart of the matter, the human tendency remains to look first at the surface - which has little or nothing to do with the spiritual...

In the deeper understanding - of the heart and soul of the single member - comes a broader perspective as well:  the body (the Bride of Christ) is being prepared for the final wedding feast and, in the preparation, is the vast population of the world's believers; and though separated now - sometimes by relatively small differences in doctrine or other - this disjoined body will be united in eternity.

The lessons and practice of the pilgrim should be to follow in the steps of Christ:  knowing that "the heart is deceitful above all else; but by faith, the question of "who can cure it?" is answered by our growing faith in the blessed Jesus, the Messiah.   Beyond the appearance or surface lies the deeper understanding of the human tendency...and the transforming of the nature to Christ.    Therefore, let us come and worship irrespective of the building or property on the corner or where ever it may be...
