Time for a Board Game

A board-game of Chess with my brother leads to the usual outcome of losing; but the outcome is not the point...rather it's participating that counts... |

"What
was will be again, what happened will happen again"
. - Ecclesiastes 1
Within the family of For a Time & Season, "Time for a Board Game" was the first. Inspired by a seemingly lifelong memory of playing board games, this particular writing (and match) focuses on chess...against the superior talent of my old brother.
Playing chess is more about the game - or any game for that matter; but is about the pleasure of a rare opportunity with family (or friends). Recollections and memories of a few board games of the childhood and the seasonal visits to extended family was a similar setting that offered the obvious competition, but more so, the companionship however brief and limited.
Even as a adult, these opportunities have been played-out with my own children over a game a board game or the more contemporary electronic variety; but in most matches, the distant past - of a season long ago - can usually be conjured-up...leaving to the heart that each time & season is special as both the present play and so many of the past. Given the opportunity, a board game is as good an reason as any to gather 'round the table, tale a bit, and try my luck once again.
